About Us

The Moulmein Wind Symphony, formerly known as Moulmein Wind Ensemble, was established in 1993, and was based in Moulmein Community Club. After moving to the Toa Payoh South Community Club in December 2004, it was renamed the Toa Payoh South Community Club - Moulmein Wind Symphony.

Currently, our band is composed (pun not intended) of professional and amateur musicians, various secondary school conductors, students ranging from secondary school to university level, music students from local institutions, as well as music lovers from all walks of life living in all parts of Singapore.

With this diverse group of individuals in its ranks, the age group of the band is, understandably, rather wide, mostly ranging between 16 to 29 years of age.

We are currently most privileged to be under the baton of Mr Lin Ah Leck, who is the Resident Conductor of the Temasek Junior College Symphonic Band (TJCSB), a band which has won accolades in local and overseas competitions. In 2005, Mr Lin led the Maris Stella Alumni Band to a gold award in the World Music Contest held in Holland, and in 2006, he led TJCSB and the Marist Alumni Band to the top band award in the open and 1st categories respectively in the 1st National Band Competition held in Singapore.

Under his directorship as our Resident Conductor, we have held two concerts in 2006 (namely Scherzo 2006 and Mirificus 2006), and two in 2007 (namely Scherzo 2007 and Mirificus 2007).

Additionally, in 2008, we performed our first of two annual concerts, Scherzo 2008, on the 1st of June, 2008. Mirificus 2008, our second annual concert, was held on the 13th of December, 2008.
